Microsoft APAC SharePoint Conference Website

Microsoft

The exclusive Microsoft APAC SharePoint Conference 2007 is the third and final of three global SharePoint Conferences, following Seattle and Berlin. This world-class, two-day conference was held in Sydney from May 15-16 and showcased the latest innovations, features and experiences for the 2007 SharePoint products and technologies.

The conference itself needed a web site, so Microsoft approached Unique World to deliver a new internet web site on the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) Platform that was easy to update and with a striking and innovative design within a 10 day turnaround time frame.

Unique World worked closely with Microsoft’s Digital marketing agency MRM to develop a new internet web site based on MOSS2007 with an architecture that allowed for a fast implementation whilst providing Microsoft the flexibility to update the content of the site where need be. The solution also focused on easy to use web templates, communication, and information sharing by leveraging Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) in ways that provide compelling value to users and organisations.

The Unique World team consisted of a SharePoint Architect, SharePoint Developer and SharePoint Creative/Usability expert with specific experience on MOSS.

Metering Application

Transgrid

TransGrid engaged Unique World after the need originated for streamlined and automated existing manual processes associated with the maintenance of metering installations, this included the handling of metering data, sending notifications to NEMMCO (National Electricity Market Management Company) and other Electricity Market participants as well as tracking all changes to existing installations.

At the time of engagement current manual processes involved tracking and recording all metering testing data on paper. The process covered data for more than 500 metering points across the state. The solution implemented by Unique World ensures more robust and efficient processes and helps minimize the risk of non-compliance with the National Electricity Rules.

Litigation Case Management System with Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007

Phillips Fox

Phillips Fox is one of Australia's largest law firms, employing more than 1500 staff across 10 offices in Australia, New Zealand and Vietnam.  Phillips Fox required a case support system that was centrally managed, capable of secure exposure to Internet users, compatible with CaseBook imports and exports, and able to provide the features required by their lawyers. In particular, it had to contain imaged and electronic documents, emails, any other type of evidence, and any meta data that could be captured electronically and by human indexers. Access needed to be available over the LAN and Internet.

The current system was deficient in several areas, but was the best of breed available, having regard to local support needs and company requirements. In particular it was document-centric, rather than 'evidence-centric.' It did not cater well for evidence that is not contained in a document, nor for evidence analysis.

The case support system developed by Unique World needed to be capable of containing data about documents, objects, events, facts, allegations, people, corporations, and reporting in detailed and aggregate reports. Where possible, the system should actually contain the objects (eg images, documents and emails).  Central management and security were critical.

Current matters in Phillips Fox's systems ranged from 300 objects to 8.5 million objects. Future proofing estimates suggested that a matter support system should scale to 20 million objects. It was not necessary that electronic files and images should reside in a data base. It was preferred that these documents remain in the file system and be referenced by logical values in the database and delivered by the web server or web service. Disparate geographic requirements suggested that a central database use distributed file servers as required.

Unique World developed a Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server Solution that adressed all of these needs and has created several additional benefits for Phillips Fox including reduced staff search times, software licsencing savings, staff time savings and reduced outsource datta entry savings.

Komatsu Australia Gains Reliable Internet with MOSS2007

Komatsu

Komatsu Australia is one of the leading distributors of mining, construction and forestry equipment in Australia and New Zealand. Komatsu Australia has the largest company branch network in the Australian heavy equipment industry, with 25 branches and 35 service depots strategically located close to key mining and civil contracting industries in all states, operating as a single national network around the country. Throughout Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia the company employs over 1300 people, with more than 70% involved in product support activities.

Komatsu Australia engaged Unique World earlier this year to deploy Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS2007) to address its Web Content Management issues. The solution developed by Unique World aimed to reduce risk exposure, improve Komatsu’s online image, produce 24x7 web site availability and create a central location for collaboration. Komatsu’s existing legacy Web Content Management System was no longer well supported and had limited design flexibility which meant that Komatsu faced genuine risks and costs associated with maintaining it.

Komatsu wanted a reliable solution that would reduce its risk of outages, boost its online parts ordering business and improve its Web site to increase the effectiveness of its Marketing. Komatsu had recently invested heavily in the Microsoft platform and wanted to leverage Microsoft applications and associated platform wherever SAP could not appropriately (functionally or cost-effectively) meet Komatsu’s requirements, in order to generate the highest possible benefits from this platform investment. The solution that provided the strongest benefit points was obvious, MOSS2007, a system that allows organisations better ways to manage their electronic content, speed up their business processes and make better decisions.

With Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Unique World at the helm, the MOSS2007 solution was scoped, planned and successfully deployed. It replaced the old internet site and delivered a solution that now has a large support base available with bottlenecks in content management eliminated along with increased reliability and compliance peace of mind. Unique World provided a more collaborative environment for the internet, rather then just a one-way news portal, whilst de-centralising the content publishing process thus enabling the appropriate Komatsu divisions to populate site content. Komatsu Australia’s 10,000 customers were therefore further encouraged to utilise the online parts ordering system that was integrated with the site.

Business Intelligence Portal

Coca-Cola South Pacific

Unique World successfully tendered for a project (one of nine companies) with Coca-Cola - to develop an improved marketing decision support system for Coca-Cola South Pacific, which will assist with the planning and management of their major brands: Coca-Cola, Sprite and Fanta.

This business intelligence solution is Microsoft based running on SQL Server Analysis Services, SharePoint Portal Server, Access XP and ASP. After 5 months of planning, documentation, development and testing the Coca-Cola compass project went live in January 2003. The solution utilised Microsoft's SharePoint Portal Server and SQL Server to deliver analytical reports to the users inside the organisation. This provided users with daily reports on the performance of how each product performed, in its corresponding sector. The solution has been deployed throughout South East Asia and Oceania.
