Transfield Services

The Client

Transfield Services is a leading international provider of maintenance, asset management and project management services. Headquartered in Australia, the company operates in many regions around the globe across a wide range of industries including mining, power, facilities management, water, transport infrastructure and defence. It has 29,000 employees worldwide, and is listed in the ASX top 100.

The Challenge

Transfield Services sought to achieve major improvements in knowledge sharing, collaboration and communication across its diverse business operations. Primary objectives were:

  • to connect people across sites, industries and regions
  • to improve sharing of tools, resources and best practice
  • to support geographically dispersed project teams.

The need for a new, globally scalable information management system to support these objectives was recognised, and the company prepared a business case for MOSS 2007.

The Solution

The successful business case proposed deployment of a MOSS-based solution for enterprise content management. Transfield Services partnered with Unique World on the design and delivery of the new system, with Unique World providing invaluable MOSS technical expertise. ‘TransNet’ now provides intranet, document management, collaboration and search functionality to 8,000 users globally.

The Benefit

Launched in July 2007, TransNet enjoyed strong, early adoption by users. Its success was quickly recognised at executive and board level. The system is widely considered as user-friendly and intuitive, with many business requirements addressed with out-of-the-box functionality. The initial level of engagement has continued, and the following benefits are being realised:

  • More effective communication to all staff and between business units
  • Rapid growth of online information resources – less re-invention of the wheel
  • Improved knowledge sharing and collaboration across the business – efficiency gains and process improvement
