Sheppparton Council

The Client

Greater Shepparton City Council in semi-rural Victoria employs more than 500 staff who manage the needs of about 60,000 citizens. The technology department consists of three technicians, a systems administrator, three records management staff and an IT manager.

The Challenge

The council had implemented a document management system that many staff found difficult to use. As a result, information was stored in multiple locations outside the document repository, and staff were frequently not using complete or accurate information when dealing with customers or new projects.

The Solution

The council installed Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server as an interface for multiple content sources, including the document repository and network storage drives. Microsoft Gold Partner Unique World Software provided TIPS SharePoint to integrate SharePoint with the document management system.

The Benefit

  • Giving staff access to the most accurate and complete information
  • Improving efficiency and reducing risk
  • Making the most of existing technology investments
  • Becoming more agile through the use of innovative technologies

FEATURE PROJECTS

FaCSIA

In March 2006, FaCSIA merged with the Office for Indigenous Policy Coordination (OIPC). The OIPC coordinates and implements Indigenous policies under FaCSIA. OIPC faced challenges in collecting and maintaining information on its projects across Australia. Without a single repository for information, OIPC was unable to exercise effective version control or document management capabilities. This made it difficult to generate accurate and timely reports. The OIPC needed a solution that would allow it to share and manage information and track projects across multiple locations in a structured and efficient manner.
